Fred Bervoets' love for the absurd, the tragicomical, and the grotesk needs no introduction in the Belgian art world. De Zwarte Panter celebrates his 80th birthday with a new solo show taking place in tandem with a survey covering sixty years of Bervoets' graphical works at Museum De Reede in Antwerp, opening May 17 and running until August 29.

Fred Bervoets' most recent works are combined in a new publication, '2019-2022', which includes a text by Paul Huvenne, former director of the Royal Museum of Fine Arts, Antwerp.

De Zwarte Panter presents new work by Michel Buylen (Ghent, °1953). Buylen is a multi-faceted and headstrong painter, who never ceases to astonish with both his amazing virtuosity and his new take on centuries-old subjects; such as the nude –or the naked?–, the child, the landscape, the sea as an obligate abstraction, and the portrait as compromise and confrontation.

Michel Buylen is anything but a conventional artist. Aided by acrylic, he succeeds in retranslating life, in all its diversity and nuances, enriching it with his own vision.
