Gallery FIFTY ONE TOO

In anticipation of the Vivian Maier exhibition at Bozar Brussels (opening June 2022), FIFTY ONE TOO presents a solo exhibition of never-before-shown images. The extraordinary story of Vivian Maier (1926-2009) is well known to many: working most of her adult life as a nanny, in her time off she roamed the streets of New York and Chicago with her camera around her neck. From the early 1950s until the mid-1990s, Maier made approximately 100.000 photographs and countless homemade documentary films and audio recordings. During her life hardly anyone knew of her photographic activities. Following an accidental discovery in 2007, the quality and value of her work was immediately recognised, saved from oblivion and posthumously given a new life. Today, her work is internationally renowned and shown in exhibitions worldwide.
